Eska at Sotheby's New York

On April 22, 2026, an ensemble of fifteen mirrors by Claude Lalanne sold at Sotheby's New York for $33.5 million. A double record was set that evening: the highest price ever paid for the artist, and the highest price ever achieved for a work of design at auction.

Originally commissioned by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé for the Salon de Musique of their Paris apartment, the mirrors were created by Claude Lalanne between 1974 and 1985 in patinated gilt bronze and galvanized copper leaves. Most recently held in the collection of Jean and Terry de Gunzburg, they returned to the market more than fourteen times above their last public price.

For the presentation of this exceptional ensemble, Sotheby's invited Eska to take part in the staging. Our hand dipped beeswax candles, made in our Paris atelier, accompanied the mirrors throughout the pre sale exhibition.
